“Not ME!” —you may say. As women we have a hard time receiving and believing that, don’t we? If you’re like this middle-aged momma, I’ll admit that I may have an amazing moment here and there…but I usually feel, well…usual. Most days are full of routine. Far more like a maze. Far less than amazing.

However, this past month I’ve been following the scripture footprints of the Easter women. And honestly, I’ve been amazed! Let’s scroll through just a few of the many biblical Easter pictures that include some of these AMAZING women so that we can leave Easter month amazed too.

(While carrying His cross) “A large number of people followed Jesus, including the women who mourned and wailed for Him.” (Luke 23:27)

(While everyone deserted Jesus and fled (Mark 14:50) “Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” (John 19::25)

(After He died) “The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how Jesus’ body was laid in it. Then the women went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandments.” (Luke 23:55-56)

(After the Sabbath) “At dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb…The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples; “He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.” Now I have told you.” So, the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met the women. “Greetings,” He said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshipped Him.” (Matthew 28:1, 5-9)

Wow! These Easter women left us some big beautiful Easter shoes to fill, didn’t they?

  • They mournfully followed Jesus as He carried the cross.
  • They wept and waited at His nail-pierced feet while He died.
  • They tearfully trailed those taking His body to be buried in the tomb.

While the crowds (and even the disciples closest to Christ) deserted and denied Him…

These Easter women CLAIMED Jesus!

Then, these Easter women PRO-CLAIMED Jesus!

Early Easter morning we see their female footsteps faithfully return to the tomb only to race back and PROCLAIM to the men folk locked in the upper room that Jesus is risen! What was one result of their claiming and proclaiming? Later that same day, two men on the road to Emmaus reported to Jesus,

“In addition, some of our women AMAZED us when they went to the tomb early this morning.” (Luke 24:22)

Did you read that? Some of our women AMAZED us!

These men who followed Jesus admitted it. “Women are AMAZING!” Yes ma’am. It’s straight from the Bible. Well okay, we need to look at context, right? Two things stand out to me in this AMAZING story: The men were definitely AMAZED at the faith, courage, and boldness of these women. Most importantly, everyone was AMAZED by the resurrected Jesus!

That one miraculous day can make our all our days and lives AMAZING!

  • As we personally CLAIM our crucified Savior, we are AMAZING!
  • As we daily PROCLAIM our risen Lord, we are AMAZING!
  • Like our Easter sisters, as we begin each morning at Christ’s empty tomb, we can live AMAZING!

The amazing fact remains that because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, women who CLAIM and PROCLAIM Jesus are far from routine, “run of the mill,” ordinary gals. Through Him, we are God’s AMAZING moms, daughters, grandmothers, and mentors who live confident of God’s AMAZING grace.

When we live AMAZED BY Christ, others will too! So rise up powerfully this spring, AMAZING God-girls!

CLAIM and PROCLAIM  our AMAZING Jesus…
